Coin and Paper Money Collecting/A penny & a quarter

Question
I found a 1960 D penny in such great condition, I thought it was a 2009. "In God We Trust" is so far up, it's on the rim of the coin. The whole top half of the phrase is bent up wards because of it. I also have a 2005 West Virginia quarter. The Washington side is perfect, but the bridge side looks like they added too much silver so they scraped it off. Besides being worth $.26, do think they're worth any more?

Thank you for your time,
Nina

Answer
Hi Nina,
The 1960 quarter sounds like it may be an interesting mis-alignment error or possibly what is known as a broad-strike... is the coin normal size or stretched out around the edge?
A follow-up question with a picture would be very helpful and I can provide much more information with it. Such errors typically do bring a premium, especially if they are on mint condition coins.
The second coins unfortunately sounds like a case of post-mint damage. No part of the modern US minting process involves scraping off excess material. Imperfect coins are simply re-melted.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
