Question
I have a pyramid shaped coin or token with a date of 1708 on it
it has PESO below a cross on one side and a M with a A in the middle on the other.
the base is about 7mm long, and each side is about 6mm.
one corner is broken off. the other two corners have a
1cm radius

Answer
Hi Gerald,
I believe you have a novelty item. At first I though that you may have an actual coin that had been cut into a triangular shape, but then realized that the 1708 date cannot be right for a genuine coin in the "peso" denomination. During this period, the official coins were silver reales or gold escudos. The earliest peso coins did not exist until well into the 1800's.
If you can ask a follow-up and post a picture, I can give you more information.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.

Collector of world coins since early childhood. Access to a variety of auction records and reference material. You can also find me on Facebook.
