Question

1802, Mexico, Colonial
Dear Sir,

I have researched a coin, 1802, Mexico, Colonial 8 Reales Coin of Charles IIII, that I have. In searching, I don't see any other coins with marks all over the front and back such as symbols that look like an "H", "K," "E" etc. Do you have any idea why these marks are on mine and not on others. Thank You!

Answer
Hello Jeremy,
I am just guessing but are the marks stamped into the coin?
I have seen many coins with "counterstamps" that were done after the coins left the mint.  Sometimes it is just grafitti.  Other times, a merchant would do it to indicate that he checked the silver content and weight.
Usually, this detracts from the value as most collectors frown on this.
I hope this helped you, if you please give me a good rating!
