Question
I have a Dutch 10 guilder gold coin that I cannot find any information on.  On the coin is the picture of King Willem and the date on the coin is 1824.

Can you provide information on this and let me know what value it has.

Answer
Hi Henry, There were 3.7 million of these Dutch 10 Gulden coins minted that year with a palm branch and B mintmark (Brussels) and 336,000 with a caduceus and torch mintmark (Utrecht). It features King William I (1815-40) and it should weigh 6.729 grams and would contain .1947 of an ounce of gold.
Collector value for the 1824B may be worth about $225 with heavy wear to around $300 with moderate wear to maybe $400 with light wear. The Utrecht mint product may be worth a little more than that.
You might try Ebay.com for similar pieces for comparison.
You might also try a library for a copy of the Standard Catalog of World Coins for pictures, values and lots more interesting info.
