Question
I have a 1894 german 20 mark, gold. My father got it from his father who came from germany...needless to say I am having a hard time finding out how much its worth...not interested in selling it. just out of curiousity I'm wondering its worth... Do you know anything about german coins? It's in very good condition and mounted in 24 ct neckless type clasp..

If you have any ideas..email me back

Much appreciated,
Michelle

Description:
Front side has a mans head ans says Wilhelm II deutscher...mser konig V.preussen with an A under the head

back side:
bird with code of arms kinda thing 20 mark and some other wording around the edges..

Answer
Michelle,

These are currently worth about $300 -- that assumes that the clasp it's in has not done any damage to the coin, in which case it would only be worth the scrap value of the gold it contains (0.23 ounce) -- currently about $250

I hope this helps,

Dan

Expertise

My strong familiarity with all U.S. Mint coins, extensive reference library, and close relationships with many other dealers allows me to identify just about any coin made in the USA. I receive regular updates to all the current price guides -- both wholesale & retail -- to provide accurate values. So, with a good description or pictures, I should be able to identify and value any U.S. coin you have.
