Coin and Paper Money Collecting/1909 English Shilling

Question
Does a 1909 Shilling in good condition have any significant value?

Thanks

Answer
Hi Ray,
The 1909 shilling is one of the better dates. Prices start at $5-$10 for a well used coin, but a decent one goes up to $20-$25. High grade coins with minimal wear run $50-$75 and mint condition coins are quite rare and bring $400-$600. The strike also affects value, whether it's bold or weak.
If you would like to post a follow-up question with a clear picture of the portrait side, I can give you a more accurate value on this coin.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.

Collector of world coins since early childhood. Access to a variety of auction records and reference material. You can also find me on Facebook.
