Coin and Paper Money Collecting/1958 Truman dime D

Question
I have a 58 Truman dime D with a 1/4" diameter circle between Truman's nose and In God We Trust. In this circle on the Truman side, part of the torch from the back of the coin appears. Part of Truman's face appears in the circle on the back side of the coin. There is very little seam around the circle (plug?) on both sides.

Is this an error from the mint or just somebody screwing around with a dime?  If it's the latter, somebody put some work into this dime. This is engraver quality work.

Thank you in advance for reviewing my question and responding.

Regards,

Lou

Answer
Hi Lou:

Thanks for your question.

It's actually a Roosevelt dime. There is no Truman dime. Without a photo, it's difficult to say, but I'm guessing it's something that was manmade outside the mint. There was no coin made in the mint in this manner, and in all my years of being associated with errors, I cannot recall ever coming across a manner in which this type of oddity could happen inside the mint. An interesting curiosity but no extra numismatic value.

Here's some links for you to view different types of real errors and their values.

You may want to check US coin listings under errors on eBay from time to time to see if coins like yours are offered for sale, and what they bring.
