Question
I have a 50 pesos pure gold coin (1821-1947 37.5 gram) in excellent condition. How much could I expect to get from selling it and is it worth more to a collector than a gold exchange and if it's worth more to a collector how do I go about contacting one?

Answer
Hi Robert, about 4 million of these were minted 1947-72 with the 1947 date. This 90% gold coin should weigh 41.6667 grams and would contain 1.2056 of an ounce of gold.
Current gold and silver values: http://www.kitco.com/market/ .
Collector value may be about 3% over the gold value for an uncirculated coin (no wear) of this type.
You might take it by a local coin shop for a first hand opinion: http://find.mapmuse.com/interest/coin_dealers .
You might try Ebay.com for similar pieces for comparison and as a place to offer it for sale.
You might also try a library for a copy of the Standard Catalog of World Coins for pictures, values and lots more interesting info.
