Question

Coin
I have a gold coin as follows... Josephus.I.D.G. Port.Alg.Rex. with a date of 1761.
Can you please tell me it's origin and value.

Thanks so much for your help.
Joe

Answer
The origin is Portugal.  It is most likely a 4 Escudo piece.  If it is genuine, it contains .4215 oz. of pure gold.  It should trade for more than the gold content, however that would be up to those who are interested in such a coin and what they are willing to pay for it.

The coins appears to be in great condition which make me wonder if it is a replica or newly minted copy.
