Question
I have alot of old coins.  I have a 1950 20 dollar bill and I have a lot of silver coins.  I have two 1942 mercury dimes and one 1944 mercury dime.  And I also have a 1896 Indian penny. and much more of silver quarters and dimes.  Can you tell me the value of some of these coins.  I was given these coins from my dad before he passed away.

Answer
Yvette,

The 1950 $20 has no significant collector value -- it's just too common.

1896 is not considered a rare date for Indian Head Cents.  In circulated condition it's worth about a dollar.

As for the rest of the silver coins, anything dated 1934 to 1964 is prettymuch only going to be valued for the silver in it.  Right now that equates to about 11 times the face value -- that is $1.10 for a dime, $2.75 for a quarter, and $5.50 for a half.  Also, if you have any 1965-1969 half dollars, they are partial silver, currently worth about $1.50 each.

I hope this helps,

Dan

Expertise

My strong familiarity with all U.S. Mint coins, extensive reference library, and close relationships with many other dealers allows me to identify just about any coin made in the USA. I receive regular updates to all the current price guides -- both wholesale & retail -- to provide accurate values. So, with a good description or pictures, I should be able to identify and value any U.S. coin you have.
