Coin and Paper Money Collecting/Southern Rhodesian Coins

Question
Good day Brad.

I have inherited a some old Southern Rhodesia coins from my late mother. These range from 1948 through to 1970 and are mainly old 21/2 cent (or 3'd) coins which are 1948 and 1949 as well as the old 5 cent coins from 1951 - 1970.

Please could you tell me if there is any value to these and where i could find out more about them.

Regards

Pat Kelly

Answer
Hi Pat, Collector value of a coin depends on denomination (face value), date, mint mark (if any), number minted and condition of a coin, including amount of wear, any dents, scratches or cleaning as well as collector demand for it.
3 pence 1948, 2 million minted, collector value may be worth about .20 with heavy wear to around $2 with moderate wear to maybe $10 with light wear.
3 pence 1949, 4 million, .20, $2, $9 in same conditions as listed above.
If you list the others by Denomination and Date, I may be able to give you a range of value estimates.
World coin pictures and some values may be found here: http://worldcoingallery.com/index.htm ,

You might also try a library for a copy of the Standard Catalog of World Coins for pictures, values and lots more interesting info.
