Coin and Paper Money Collecting/War Token?

Question

Front of Coin
I have recently acquired what appears to be an war token or coin from one of the World Wars.  I can't seem to find any info on it or its history.

Answer
Hi Heather,
This is a world War II Italian medallion commemorating those who fought and died to preserve the ideal of the Roman Empire. At the time the Fascists looked back to their warrior roots as a morale booster (a political move), much like the Japanese did with their samurai heritage and Germans with their "aryan" roots.
It was engraved by E. Monti, whose works do show up on the market. He was mainly active around WWII.
Your medallion appears to be in excellent shape and as such should bring around $75 to $100 at auction, as long as it's open to international bidders.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
