Answer
Hi Michel,
I have seen several examples of US silver coins that have had this done to them, but never an English halfpenny or any other non-US coin. They basically they a coin, heat it and then press it over a mold to create this 3-dimensional sculpture. The ones I normally see range anywhere from $10 to $100+ depending on size and quality.
This one is a bit unusual, but done in a very high quality with no visible damage. As such a curious and unusual item, it's tough to assign an exact value. I would comfortably estimate it at auction between $30 and $50.
Thanks for the question! =)

PS: Thanks, but no thanks for the low rating, although I gave you a complete and correct answer. next time, make sure you ask someone other than me, since I will reject the question.

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
