Coin and Paper Money Collecting/1748 Dutch Duit

Question
Hi Dmitry, I inherited from my father an uncirculated 1748 Duit. According to the verbiage on the package, the mint was Rosette Dordrecht and the rotated reverse is off center.  Can you give me an idea of the coin's value?  Thank you for your help...

Answer
Hi Jim,
This is indeed a coin from Holland. The Netherlands were not yet a unified nation at that time, just a confederation of states, of which Holland was one.
The 1748 year would be a silver coin, which is more valuable than the more common copper versions.
In uncirculated condition and with good eye appeal the coin is worth $100 to $150 depending on if it's sold in the US or in Europe. Now, if you have a really nice example, with a sharp strike and strong luster, the price will only go up.
It's not possible for me to give you an exact value without seeing a clear, close-up picture of te coin.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
