Question

My Note
Hi i was wondering what my 1981 Series A one dollar bill is worth. It is in pretty good shape. It has a cutting error on it. It is in the bottom left hand corner of the bill as you can see in the pictue. I was just wondering what it is worth. Thanks.

Thanks for the question.

Bills are printed in sheets of 36 notes and in three phases. Reverse print, obverse print, and serial numbers with seal print. It sounds like you may have a cutting error where the sheet was miss-fed and partially folded during the cutting operation. This error is called a "butterfly" cutting error and was missed in the inspection process.

The condition is very important in establishing the value of a note. A crisp, uncirculated note would likely be worth approximately $25 to $35 retail to an interested error collector. Your note appears to have been slightly circulated, so the value would more likely be in the $15 to $25 range.

You may want to check US currency listings under error notes on eBay from time to time to see if your error is listed what this type of error note brings.
