Answer
Hi again Bob, it's been a while. Hope you're having a good holiday season and not having to deal with the crazy snow like I am here in NYC.
Well, the medal is a commemoration of the restoration of a statue of Henri IV, which had been destroyed during the French Revolution. It would have been made in the early 1800's.
However, looking at the finer details poses some concerns. The lettering looks a bit crude, with breaks in some letters, and the surface strikes me the wrong way. Now, it could just be a late die state piece that has been cleaned, but without further inspection I would be pretty suspicious as far as the authenticity of this medal.
Have you weighed it by any chance?
Thanks!

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
