Coin and Paper Money Collecting/Mis stamped dime

Question
I have a 1999 dime that the front is not centered. The edge is flat around
about halfway and raised around the other half. Is this a special dime and
worth more than 10 cents?

Thank you,
Sheri

Answer
Hi Sheri,
Us coins are not my main area of expertise, but it sounds like a pretty good off-center error. The value would depend on just how much off-center it is. If you can take a clear picture and attach it to a follow-up question that would be very helpful.
A typical example would sell for around $10. But that price can be lower or a lot higher depending on the percentage of the design that is off the flan that the coin was struck on.
Thanks!

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.

Experience

Collector of world coins since early childhood. Access to a variety of auction records and reference material. You can also find me on Facebook.
