Question
Hello, I have a 1963A $10 bill signed Henry H. Fowler. He was not the secretary till 1965. He was undersecretary. Do you any info how this could be? And might it be worth more than face value becauce of this? Thank you!

Answer
Hi Rick:

Thank you for allowing me to answer your question.

I found a link on small size notes that confirms all 1963A note signatures are Granahan-Fowler. They were printed from 4/65 through 10/66. The 1963A series does not mean they were printed in 1963. The 1963 series had Granahan-Dillon from 1/63 to 3/65. The 1963A series began when Granahan was still serving as the U.S. Treasurer and Fowler became Secretary of the Treasury. Collector value of your note depends on date and condition, including amount of wear, any folds, tears or stains as well as collector demand.

A current issue of "Paper Money Values" indicates your note to have a retail value of about $15 with light wear to perhaps $40 in choice uncirculated depending on amount of collector demand. With a star note, the value goes to $25 in EF condition, with an CH UNC note at $70.

You may want to check US currency listings under ten dollar notes on eBay from time to time to see what this type of note brings.

If you live near a coin shop, I'd suggest you let them look at the note. Most dealers will offer an opinion as to the value at no charge.
