Question
I have this 1867 white trillium flower coin with the shield in the center of to moose on the opposite side I was wondering if you could tell me the value of my coin?

Answer

Hi Victoria,
This is part of a set of 13 medallions made in 1967 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the confederation of Canada (1867-1967). The white trillion flower and moose are two popular Canadian symbols for the province of Ontario, which is where your medallion is for. Pieces for other provinces from this set had similar designs, such as a Tiger lily flower, etc.
These were actually distributed as novelty pieces by gas stations and a complete set of 13 could have been purchased for no more than $10.
Today, the value of an individual medallion is a dollar or two in used condition. For a perfect shiny one you can get around $5.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
