hello my name is chad marshall i have an 1875 Deutsches reich  2 pfenning i was woundering if it is worth anything?
thank you for your time

Answer
Hi Chad,
The value on coins like this really depends on condition, since there were tens of millions made. There are also several mint marks that help determine the value. If you look on the side with the eagle, at the bottom and at either side of the tail will be two small letters. They can be A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H or J, with each standing for a different city that minted the coins. The H is the most valuable.
The value starts at around $1 or so for a well used coin (around $3 for the H mint mark). At the high end, mint condition coins are worth around $50 (up to $100 for the H mint mark). This is a retail price for a coin sold internationally. The market for these here in the US is weak and the price would be a whole lot lower.
I can certainly give you a more exact grade and value if you post a follow-up question with a picture of the coin.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.

Experience

Collector of world coins since early childhood. Access to a variety of auction records and reference material. You can also find me on Facebook.
