Question

1924error
I have a 1924 German 10 Rentenpfennig, mint mark D in pretty good shape except for on the side with the 10, at the top there's a straight, deep groove through it. Is this an error from the mint?
If you know of such an error, could you fill me in?
Thanks for your time.

Brenda

Answer
Hi Brenda, it is more likely damage after the coin left the mint.
There were 33.9 million of these aluminum-bronze German 10 pfennig coins minted that year in Munich (D). Without the damage collector value may be worth about .10 with heavy wear to around $1 with moderate wear to maybe $4 with light wear.
You might also try a library for a copy of the Standard Catalog of World Coins for pictures, values and lots more interesting info.
