Question
My son found this coin it has a lady sitting with liberty spikes coming out of her head she is holding a staff it says 1930 on front and 20 cent on back  also on front it says Republique Francaise. what can you tell me about this coin?

Answer
Hi April,
You have a silver 20 centimes from the French Indo-China colony. This was the area of modern day Thailand, Cambodia and Annam. There were over five and a half million of these coins made in 1930. Value depends on condition and starts at just a couple of dollars for a well used coin. Sharp looking examples with minimal signs of wear sell for around $10 and if you have one in mint condition and still shiny, it's worth $25 to $30.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
