Question
I have a 1955 Steel Wheat Penny that I have had since the 1960's.
I know it is steel because it can be lifted with a magnet. Back on 4/4/07 you received an email from someone else trying to identify a 1955 Steel Wheat Penny.  I am wondering if you were able to determine an origin and value?

Answer
Hi Bill,
there are a few possibilities.  #1, the coin was struck on a foreign coin planchet.
#2, it is plated.  #3, struck on a silver dime planchet.

A true steel cent should weigh 2.7 grams.  Check the weight.
