Question

2000 MD
I found a 2000 Maryland quarter that is a copper color on both sides. It looks to me like it may be Unfinished Planchet, but I really am not sure. It's pretty dirty, but I was just curious if it might have any value. I attached some pictures. Molly

Answer
Molly,

It looks like you may have an unfinished planchet error, but it's hard to tell from a picture.  A normal quarter is supposed to weigh 5.67 grams -- if yours weighs noticably less, then I'd say you have one -- otherwise I'd have to surmise that you just have a coin that has been exposed to something that turned it to that color.

Unfinished planchet errors are not extremely valuable -- perhaps $5 to $10

I hope this helps,

Dan

Expertise

My strong familiarity with all U.S. Mint coins, extensive reference library, and close relationships with many other dealers allows me to identify just about any coin made in the USA. I receive regular updates to all the current price guides -- both wholesale & retail -- to provide accurate values. So, with a good description or pictures, I should be able to identify and value any U.S. coin you have.
