Question
Hi, I have a Belgium 1/2 Franc silver coin dated 1844.
the coin is in very good condition and I wonder if you can give me some Idea if it is worth anything, regards John.

Answer
Hi John,
You certainly have a valuable coin. Just how valuable really depends on what you mean by "very good" condition. The standard coin grade of "very good" is actually a well used coin, while a relative analysis may mean a very high grade coin.
The prices on these start at $20 or less for a well used coin and go upwards of $500 for one in mint condition.
A sharp coin with very minor signs of wear and perhaps even partial luster will be in the $100 range.
If you would like to post a follow-up question with a picture of the coin, I can give you more exact information on the condition and value.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.

Collector of world coins since early childhood. Access to a variety of auction records and reference material. You can also find me on Facebook.
