Question
Hello and thank you for taking the time to answer my question.  I have a collection of coins that I am trying to get a rough value on and was wondering if you could steer me in the right direction.

We have:

Canadian 5 cent piece-

1- 1945

Canadian 50 cent pieces-

1- 1940
3- 1941

2- 1942
3- 1943
2- 1944
1- 1945
1- 1946
1- 1947
1- 1949
1- 1950
2- 1951
2- 1952
1- 1960
2- 1961
2- 1962
8- 1963
4- 1964
1- 1965
1- 1966

Is there a value on these coins at all?

Thank you again!

Answer
Hi Danielle,
The 5 cent piece is worth a couple of dollars in mint condition, otherwise just face value.
the silver 50 cent pieces are worth around 12x face value as a group, if they are in decent condition. Worn coins are worth silver bullion value of up to $5 each. For the 1947 piece, if there is a small maple leaf next to the date, then you have a more valuable variety.
thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
