Question
Quite a few years back my father passed away and I inherited a few foreign coins. I have found out what most of them are, but this one. This says Hu-Peh Province, although province looks like phoyince (hard to read). At the bottom it says ten cash. Confusing. What is it and what year(s)would it be. Does it have any worth?Thank you.Terry

Answer
Hi Terry,
It would not be possible to give you the exact information without seeing a picture of the coin. There were many varieties of these 10 cash coins from the late 1890's to the early 1910's.
Hupeh is one of the larger provinces from China. Coins like this were made by virtually all such provinces.
The majority are only worth a couple of dollars, up to $15-$25 in mint condition. There are a few rare ones, however that can have a significant value.
If you would like to post a follow-up question with a picture of the coin, I can give you more specific information on the condition and value.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.

Experience

Collector of world coins since early childhood. Access to a variety of auction records and reference material. You can also find me on Facebook.
