Coin and Paper Money Collecting/Helvetia 1/2 franc

Question
I was just wrapping some change from my change bank and found a 1904 Helvetia 1/2 franc, worn condition. Any information on this coin?

Answer
Hi Michele,
It's too bad the coin is worn. The 1904 is a low mintage year, with only 400k made. They are usually found in worn condition, with a value of just a couple dollars. Sometimes you see them with just a little wear going for around $50. Mint condition coins are very rare and do over $1,000.
the coin is made of silver and contains about 1/20th of an ounce of pure silver weight.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
