Question
Hi, I just acquired a Japanese 5 peso bill and was curious as to how to determine the date printed? It is is decent shape with 2 fold lines (1 vertical and 1 horizontal) do they have any value?  one number upper right corner is 0684144 lower left is 18 both sets are red. thank you

Answer
Hi Brian, if it is black on green and yellow underprint with the Rizal monument on the left on the front and brown on the back then it was issued for the Philippines in 1943. Collector value may be worth about .25 with heavy wear to around .75 with moderate wear to maybe $1.50 with light wear.
You might also try a library for a copy of the Standard Catalog of World Coins for pictures, values and lots more interesting info.
