Question

Old Coins & Currency
Brad,

We know this is asking a LOT but we thought we'd give you a try.  We've attached page 1 of 2 "picture" of a spreadsheet containing all the old coins and currency in our possession.  Would you be able to lead us to the best source#s) for an "honest" and "sincere" valuation?

We know it's probably not wise to admit that we know NOTHING about this stuff, but we don't!  So, we need someone we can trust to get an honest, fair appraisal.

We are retiring to Costa Rica, Central America this fall and need to dispose of everything!

Thank you in advance for any help you can give us!

Answer
Hi Jerry, Costa Rica sounds nice!
Collector value of a coin depends on denomination (face value), date, mint mark (if any), number minted and condition of a coin, including amount of wear, any dents, scratches or cleaning as well as collector demand for it.
If you email me the spreadsheet I can add the values and email it back (tbirde@psknet.com).
U.S. coin prices for professionally graded coins: http://www.pcgs.com/prices/
and ungraded coins: http://www.bestcoin.com/united-states-coin-pricing-guide.htm .
Ungraded coins (raw) are worth less depending on amount of wear and collector demand.
You might also try a library for a copy of the Guidebook of United States Coins for pictures, values and lots more interesting info.
