Coin and Paper Money Collecting/Penny with no year

Question
Hello, I have a wheat penny that does not have a year on it. It is completely smooth where the year should be. Not even a trace of a year being there. It also has no signs that the year was talking off. It just looks like a regular wheat penny with no year. What do you think???   Thank You for your time,

Answer
Most likely, it was tampered with.  A microscope would be the best way to inspect the coin.
When a coin is struck, the date is already engraved in the dies.
I would have to see the coin to make any true determination.
