Question
I am trying to find the value of this speciality mounted coin which has the Peruvian coat of arms and the image of Brittania on the reverse dated 1965. The coin is in mint condition.
Can you help please?

Answer
Hi Bev,
You have a Peruvian 100 soles, made of .900 purity (22 karat) gold. The weight for a genuine coin is right around 48.8 grams. These coins were made in low numbers and value depends on the condition. Mint condition coins are worth more than just their gold bullion weight. You mentioned that this coin is mounted. This will leave damage around the edge of the coin and it would be worth bullion value, maybe plus 5% if the damage is minor.
On today's market, that would be $1,500 US.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
