Question

Escudo
I am attaching some pictures of coins for basic evaluation.  I am having trouble finding info on the 1 Escudo coins.  I cannot find values on these and can't find them in the book that I have.  Also, I cannot find info on Canadian 1943 Tombacs (Unc).  The books go from 1942 to 1944.  Are you familiar with those?

Answer
Hi Heather,
The 1928 and 1929 1 escudo coins are both fairly common in circulated conditions. Decent ones, like the two you posted, would be around $5 each. In mint condition they are several hundred dollars a piece.
The 1943 Tombac nickel ranges from $5 to $10 in UNC, depending on how bright and sharp it is. This date is listed in both the Krause-Mishler "Standard Catalog of World coins" and the Charlton book of Canadian coins as well.
Thanks again for the questions! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
