Coin and Paper Money Collecting/What is this medallion?

Question
I have a medallion that has Wilhelm Koenig Von Preussen on the front and on the back, an eagle with a crown.  Above that states "Duppel" and on bottom of medallion, 1864.  On either side, the number 18 and on opposite side, APR.  Is this of any value?

Answer
Hi Debra,
This is a Prussian military medal known as a Duppel Storm Cross. Less than 35,000 of these were made in Berlin and were awarded for participation in the storming of the Duppel Heights during the war with Denmark.
In good condition and with the original blue white and black ribbon the medal is worth $150. Without the ribbon the value is around $120 or so.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
