Question
QUESTION: I have a paper bill"Landsbanki Island" Fimm Kronur,Samkvaemt logue nr 10   15 April 1928. It has the number 5 on the corners. Can you give me the history?

ANSWER: Hi Betsy, this is an undated 5 Kronur note from Iceland. The 1928 date is the year the law authorizing these notes was issued. It appears on several varieties of these notes which were issued 1928 through 1956. The most common (1948-56) is green on multicolor underprint and has a C before the serial number. Its collector value may be worth about $2 with heavy wear to around $5 with moderate wear to maybe $20 with no wear (uncirculated). If yours if different let me know.

QUESTION: Brad,

There is not a letter before the serial number. The note is not exactly green, more of a beige with a red and green undercolors on the front. On the front left is a pic of a statley gentleman and on the right is a blank circle. There are two names on the front with one beginging with  Jon(ei)can not read the rest and the second name is Georg---- can not read that either. On the back is a blank circle on the left and a pic of a large building on the right. On the bottom of the note reads,Bradbury Wilkinson & CO.L Engra---New Malden Surrey England. Thanks for your help

I also have a 10 Shilling note. There is a pic of the queen on the left, she is sitting, holding a staff in the left hand and a flower in the the right. On the right side is an emblem with 10 shillings on it. At the top it says Bank of England. Top right and bottom left is the serial number J58D 555272. The signature on the bottom right looks like K(H)O Peppiam, chief cashier

I have several other notes..Ecuador, Iceland, Morroco, Canada. My Dad was in the Navy and collected these from his travels. He was a veteran of WW II in the Pacific.

Thanks,
Betsy

Answer
Hi Betsy, this Iceland 5 Kronur was one issued 1934-47 and collector value may be worth about $5 with heavy wear to around $40 with moderate wear to maybe $140 with no wear.
The brown British 10 Shillings with Peppiatt's signature was issued 1934-39 and collector value may be worth about $10 with heavy wear to around $50 with moderate wear to maybe $200 with no wear.
You might try Ebay.com for similar pieces for comparison.
Collector value of a note depends on date, series letter or signature and condition, including amount of wear, any folds, tears or stains as well as collector demand.
