Answer
Hi Blair,
It's really great that you are passing the hobby down a generation. Coin hobbyists like myself are often concerned that we are a waning breed.
Unfortunately there is no free on-line resource that would give you all the info that you get from the book. The Krause-Mishler people who publish the various volumes of the Standard Catalog of World coins are very protective of their research.
For the 1873 drachma it's made of .835 purity silver.
They are fairly easy to find in worn condition, but nice examples are hard to come by and very valuable.
I would be curious to know the condition of this one. It can mean the difference between a $10 and a $1,500 coin.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.

Experience

Collector of world coins since early childhood. Access to a variety of auction records and reference material. You can also find me on Facebook.
