Question
Hi, What is the difference between KM 116.2 and KM 117.2 .  I have a coin matching criteria of KM 117.1 except it has a star on rim.   Is it KM 116.2 or KM 117.2?? Huge difference in value.   Thanks Chuck

Answer
Hi Chuck,
The only difference between these two types is the arrangement of the lettering on the obverse side with the three shields. The KM 117.2 has the Dutch legend on the left hand side and the French legend on the right (BELGIE on left, BELGIQUE on right). The rare KM 116.2 has them reversed (BELGIQUE on left, BELGIE on right).
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
