Question
i have a quarter that for lack of a better term, has two pimples on it, one on the front taking up the nose and chin, and one on the back on the lower right of the eagles wing. the details of the nose and chin are visible as is the eagle feathers and the leaves. is this called a mistrike

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to answer your question.

When asking a question, especially with errors, always provide as much information about your piece as possible. This helps to pinpoint what you may have. Attaching a photo would also help. I'll answer your question as best I can. If you want to ask a follow up question by providing more information, I'll revise my answer or add to it as required.

Your coin is likely genuine, but damaged after it left the mint. This type of "error" can happen if a coin is caught in a fire or heated by someone, causing the cladding to separate internally from the copper core, forming a (pimple) bubble. This coin sometimes shows up for sale on ebay and is NOT an error, but a damaged coin. An interesting conversation piece, but it has no added numismatic value.

Sell coins, tokens and currency currently at my space in the Pomona Antique Center. Past "Errorscope" Editor. Presently CONECA Examiner.
