Question
hello,
I have a 1978 uruguay artigas coin it is gold in color and the reverse says nuevo peso. I know that it is probably a common coin but it seems to be in great condition and the color is brilliant. Any info would be great.
thank you

Answer
Hi again,
This Uruguay peso is indeed common, with a practical value of $2-$3 for a perfect coin. It is made of an aluminum-bronze alloy, which gives it that shiny and attractive gold color.
This was one of the first coins minted after the country reformed their highly inflated currency.
Ten years after this coin inflation struck again and the coins were in the tens and hundreds of pesos denominations.
Thanks again! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
