Question
I am having a hard time finding any information on this medal and would appreciate any info you can provide. It is silver, and about 2", with a plain edge. It says " AL GRAN PUEBLO ARGENTINO SALUD", and "A LA UNION NACIONAL DE LA REPUBLICA ARGENTINA 1860." At the bottom, it says "PABLO CATALDI GRABO BUENOS AIRES". And on the back it has the symbol of a handshake underneath a bell surrounded by small symbols, each with a word or 2 words, such as Riova and Cordova. Can you tell me what it is and possibly how much it is? Or where I may be able to find out more about it? Thank you very much for your time.

Answer
Hi Jennifer,
This is a national medal for the city of Buenos Aires. This one is not commemorating a specific event or person, but rather the health and prosperity. The name "Pablo Cataldi" would refer to an official, like a mayor, of the city who would have undersigned the making of this medal.
They are found in both bronze and silver. The bronze version is worth up around $35 in excellent condition and the silver is worth up to $75.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
