Coin and Paper Money Collecting/Help Me Identify & Grade This Coin

Question

Antique Coin
Can you help me identify this coin, date, and possible grading. Thank you so much.  Is it worth much?

Answer
Hi Kim,
This is a Spanish colonial 8 reales cob coin from Bolivia, made of high purity silver. This particular one would grade as a VG to Fine. If I were to estimate it for auction I would expect somewhere between $100 and $150.
There are several dates in the 1660's that had similar assayer and mint marks, so it would not be possible to tell the exact date on your coin without extensive research. Either way the specific date will only have a small effect on the value.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
