Question
I have two gold medallions of a commemorative gold medalion of 100th birthday of Dr. Sun Yat Sen, on about a 1/2 ounce and the other an ounce,  What are their values, are they worth more as gold weight or as a coin???

Answer
Hi Creighton,
These sound like the 1965 Taiwan 1000 and 2000 yuan gold coins. These were issued for the 100th birthday of Sun Yat Sen and weigh 15.0 and 30.0 grams of .900 purity (22 karat) gold.
As such they are worth 10%-15% above gold bullion value.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
