Question
my greAT GRANDFATHER HAD A GOLD COIN AND WANTS TO GET A IDEA OF WHAT THE VALUE IS ON IT. IT'S A 1854 LIBERTY HEAD WITH 13 STARS ON ONE SIDE. AND THE OTHER IS A EAGLE WITH 13 STARS ABOVE HIS HEAD. IT READS SAN FRANCISCO CALIFORNIA TWENTY D. ON THE OTHER. HE REALLY WOULD LIKE TO GET A  IDEA OF THIS COINS VALUE. ITS ALSO IN MINT CONDITION.

Answer
Hello Chad,
It sounds to me like a $20 gold piece minted by Kellogg & Co.  (Kellogg should be legible in Liberty's headband)
There were many replicas made of this coin so we would have to determine if it is genuine.  If it is, it is worth anywhere from $6,000 and up in mint condition.  It could go as high as $20,000
If he would liek it appraised, feel free to contact me through our website
