Question
I have a Napoleon III  DIX centimes 1857 with the letter w under the eagle on the back. I cannot find a coin the same with the letter W on it, or the date of 1857. Is this coin worth anything?

Answer
Hi Kim, There were 1.86 million of these bronze French 10 (dix) centimes coins minted that year in Lille (W) featuring Emperor Napoleon III (1852-70). Collector value may be worth about $2.50 with heavy wear to around $20 with moderate wear to maybe $60 with light wear.
You might try Ebay.com for similar pieces for comparison.
You might also try a library for a copy of the Standard Catalog of World Coins for pictures, values and lots more interesting info.
