Question
QUESTION: I have a 1970G 50 pfennig coin . Can you tell me anything about this coin. Thank you Barbara

ANSWER: Hi Barbara,
This German coin was legal tender up until 2002, when they switched over to the Euro. The Duetsche Bundesbank still accepts the old marks and pfennigs at an exchange rate of 2 marks to 1 euro. Your coin is worth 25 euro cents at present. They do not have collectible value just yet because they are considered modern coinage.
Thanks for the question! =)

QUESTION: Thank you so much for the information
I also am trying to find out about a 1891 silver dollar

Answer
Hi again Barbara,
An 1891 Us silver "Morgan" dollar, as they are called, has different values depending on the mint mark (if any). If you look down below the eagle's tail there may be nothing, a small letter S, O or a CC. The 1891 plain and 1891-S coins range from $16 in well used condition to $125 and up in mint condition. The 1891-O is $18 to $300+ in the same conditions. The 1891-CC is more scarce and the values for the same conditions range from $100 to $900+.
The values for really choice uncirculated coins are well beyond these ranges.
If you would like to post a follow-up with a clear picture of the coin I can give you more specific info.
Thanks again for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
