Question

Heads shown on the coi
I believe I have been given the above coin but there is nothing in western script on the coin for me to read.
It shows two men`s heads - the foreground one being the king of Thailand so I am told.
I cannot find anywhere on the internet how to identify the coin,
it`s age, history/meaning, anything.
I think maybe a commemorative coin but of what?
Can you help me?
Many thanks,
Andrew (I have photos of both sides if you want to email me a reply address so I can send them both)

Answer
Hi Andrew,
This indeed looks like a Thai 10 baht coin. This is a commemorative type made only in 1981 for the 35th anniversary of the reign of King Rama IX. There are actually many Thai coin that have the two heads in various poses. In this case, they are the conjoined images of the younger and older king.
Because they are fairly new and there were 3 million of them made, the value is only a dollar or two in excellent condition.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
