Question

1858 One Cent Flying E
Hi Joe -
I have recently inherited a small collection of coins consisting of large cents (1825 to 1849), flying eagles (1857-1858), one cent Indian Heads (1863-1908), early 1900 five cent liberty heads and buffalo nickels.  The older coins (1825 to 1840) are fairly worn; however, from the mid 1850's and onward the coins are in better shape.  I can only attach one photo to this e-mail so I have included a scan of the front of a 1858 one cent flying eagle. I am curious as to the value and should the coin be graded also, are these coins of any interest to collectors as I am interested in selling.
Thanks for your time and assistance - it is greatly appreciated!!  Have a good day!

Answer
Hello Lorraine,

Having a coin certified does not always pay.  It cost anywhere up to $35 to certifiy a coin so one must look at the value of the coin and if certifying it is economically wise.  This is usually only done for higher price pieces where the authenticity and grade may be in question.

Your 1858 FE Cents, from what I can see, grades FINE.  It is worth about $30 so it doesn't pay to spend any money to make it more marketable.  If the coins are common dates, and worn, save the money and just sell them as they are.
