Question
Hi Ronalrd,

I have dozens of 1963 series a five dollar bills with red seals, all of which have been in circulation (so none in particularly great condition).  The serial numbers all begin and end in a, but the numbers between all vary.  Are their any serial numbers that are of paricular value so that I can crosss reference them with ones I have?  Thanks in advance for you time and consideration.

Mike

Answer
Hi Mike:

Thank you for the opportunity to answer your question.

A lot depends on your note's condition, as well as the specific serial number. You need to properly grade the note. I don't know of a list of SN's, but unusual ones, low ones, like A000000001A, or A1111111111A, or A01234543210A, etc., may have added value to an interested collector.

A recent issue of "Paper Money Values" shows your 1963 Series A $5 FRN in very fine condition to have a retail value of $6. You may want to check ebay listings under US currency to see if your note is listed and what they are going for.

Remember, should you decide to sell your note to get at least two estimates from established currency dealers. You can find then listed at link: http://www.rarecurrency.net/ Dealers will normally pay 50% to 60% of retail for notes they are interested in.
