Answer
Hi Denay,
The first coins is a Morgan silver dollar, a US coin made from 1878 up to 1921. The 1896 is a pretty common date and with a hole is worth silver melt value, which is around $12 for this coin.
The second is also a US coin, but not one that is meant to be used as regular money. This is a Silver Eagle bullion coin. One troy ounce of pure silver is worth a little over $18, but as a collectible coin they sell for $25.
The "JM" is the initials of the person that designed the coin.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
