Question

china10cash
I found a copper coin in my garden that is identical to the one in the image I am sending. It is a bit more worn looking though than the one pictured. Can you please tell me anything at all that you know about it? Thank you!

Answer
Hi,
This Chinese 10 cash coin from the Hupeh province of china does not have a date, but they were made between 1902 and 1905. There are several varieties, each with a slight difference, that are all worth about the same. This one ranges from just a dollar or two in well used condition up to $25 or so for one in excellent shape. the values are fairly low for something this old because there were literally tens of millions of them made and plenty are still found all over the world.
For reference, the one in the attached picture would be considered excellent condition.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
